Rescue story from Bonorong Wildlife Park
We see a lot of sad things, but we also have our faith restored in humanity sometimes too!
Tonight we received a call for a sulphur-crested cockatoo over ten metres up a tree, stuck by its leg to a branch by some sort of hook and string. This type of rescue is normally out of anyones capability to help, but Bonorong called the man that is always there for wildlife – Andrew Hunt from Just Trees Hobart (

Andrew has helped us countless times and quickly arranged Alister Hodgman from Element Tree Services to get climbing the huge gum tree and get the cockatoo down. They did not hesitate to help and had the cocky down quicker then many rescues we arrange! Not an easy job rescuing a very distressed bird stuck to the tree so badly that Alister had to remove the entire branch with the cockatoo still attached (and in full bite mode we might add)
A huge thanks to Megan and Luke, two of our rescuers that also assisted with this rescue and also to our many other rescuers who offered their support tonight!
We have said this before, but please support those that support wildlife, the environment and Bonorong, the people mentioned above are exactly that!!
Just Trees Hobart also manage all of our trees at the Sanctuary and are responsible for keeping our guests safe. They are so conscious of wildlife that even big trees that may need to come down will be saved and just cut in a way to make sure every single hollow is still in tact for the birds to breed in!
